CTM: Continuous Thread Method

One shuttle and ball of thread - Wind the shuttle, but do not cut the thread between the shuttle and ball. The thread is Continuous between the shuttle and ball of thread.

Two shuttles - Wind one shuttle, then pull enough thread from the ball to wind the second shuttle. The thread between the two shuttles is Continuous.

S1 = Shuttle one, S2 = Shuttle two

Instructions:
Two shuttles (CTM)

S1 Center ring ( 3 - 1 - 3 ) turn
S1 Chain ( 6 ) turn
S2 Outside ring ( 3 - 3 ) turn
S1 Chain ( 6 ) turn
*
S1 Center ring ( 3 + 1 - 3 ) turn
S1 Chain ( 6 ) turn
S2 Outside ring ( 3 - 3 ) turn
S1 Chain ( 6 ) turn
*
Repeat between * until there are 6 center rings and 6 outside rings with chains between them as in the diagram. Join the last ring to the first, and the last chain at the base of the 1st ring as in the diagram.

Note on working with two shuttles: You only actually tat with one shuttle at a time, the other shuttle thread is ignored while tatting a ring, or used as the ball thread when tatting a chain.

Note on working outside rings: When the outside ring is completed, tat the 2nd half of the DS tightly to begin the chain, then tat the required number of DS. This will give more definition to the point of the snowflake when it is a 2nd shuttle ring.
